I Am Back!

Tag:

I have been back to the USA for a few days now, still suffering from jet-lag (waking up in the middle of the night, looking for food). SimCooks Kitchen has not yet officially opened because I am trying out a few recipes from mom, and also because of this:

Wrist In Splint

I had unwittingly sprained my wrist (must be due to carrying heavy shopping bags). The doctor thought I may have torn a ligament or cracked my wrist bone so she had my wrist wrapped in a splint.

This has hindered my ability to be efficient in the kitchen. On the positive side, my left hand is still functional and with some difficulty, I have been cutting, chopping and cooking using my left hand.

Mom’s previous tips about prep work (pre-cooking dried shrimp, dried scallops and freezing meat with ginger and garlic) came in very handy in terms of reducing the amount of work needed to prepare a meal.

I had taken a few pictures of the some of the hawker food I had been craving for. Stay tuned as I upload them in the next few days.

See you soon!

Don’t worry, we can survive on hawker food for the moment. My “series” just ended. I can continue my feasting here at yours :D Be careful when you cut or chop with your left hand, ok? unless you have done it often with your leftie. I had a light sprain on my left wrist 4-5 mths ago (due to constant holding the heavy pan while cooking) and it took me almost 3 mths to recover! Take care.

Sorry to hear about the wrist. Hope it will heal quickly. People around you are suffering from lack of good food. :-)

Glad you’re bad. Sorry to hear about your wrist, but now I can honestly tell my wife shopping can be dangerous.

Hi all, Thanks for your kind words. I will be careful with my weaker left hand. Now it just takes twice the time to prepare a meal. The doctor said I’ll need 4-6 weeks to recover :( I guess I’ll spend my time reading about all your good eats to cheer myself up. :)

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon. And I think Mr. Sim Cooks should step up and do the cooking. :)

Hakkahouse - one left hand and two right fingers :)

PP - I made kong bak (or some sort of pork braised in dark soy sauce) last week, but haven’t compared recipes with yours yet.

Chopsticks - LOL! That Mr SimCooks can cook was a scam before we got married :O
