Anchovies - Yet another kind

Remember I used anchovies in my Spaghetti with Shrimp and Anchovies meal? Those were super large anchovies soaked in olive oil.

In the Asian supermarket, you can find small boiled anchovies in packets. They are in the cool section, together with the dried shrimp and dried mini scallops.

Braised Eggplant Recipe

I have to say I am not really a great fan of eggplants (also called aubergine or brinjal). It’s just like okra (also called ladies’ finger), the texture of a cooked eggplant dish is a bit slimy.

Century Egg & Lean Meat Congee Image

Legend has it that century eggs are or once were prepared by soaking eggs in horse urine. Eeeew! Probably that myth arose from the ammonia smell that century eggs are known to have.

Maybe it’s an Asian thing. Just like foie gras (found in French cuisine) or sea urchin roe (popular food in Japanese sushi cuisine), I think century egg is also an acquired taste.
